Police cordoned off Pilsudski Square in central Warsaw due to a bomb threat, an eyewitness told Reuters, a day before elections in the European Union and a NATO member state.

Polish mass media reported that the man climbed onto the monument in the square and threatened to blow himself up.

Images posted on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, showed a man standing atop a monument in Smolensk that commemorates the victims of the 2010 plane crash that killed 96 people, including President Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria.

“Don’t go in, it’s a bomb,” a policeman at the scene told a Reuters reporter.

A police representative confirmed that a man climbed onto the monument.
