
Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in many Arab and Muslim countries on Friday in support of the Palestinians on the seventh day of the war between Israel and Hamas, triggered by a bloody and unprecedented attack by the Palestinian movement, AFP reported.
In a demonstration organized in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of the Lebanese Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, more than a thousand people expressed solidarity with the Palestinians.
“Hezbollah is tracking the movement of the enemy. We are fully prepared and will act at the right time,” Hezbollah’s second-in-command, Naim Kassem, warned amid fears that the powerful armed movement could open a new front against Israel in Lebanon.
In Baghdad, tens of thousands of Iraqis gathered in Tahrir Square, chanting “No occupation! Not America!
Supporting Shiite leader Moqtada Sadr’s call “in support of Gaza” and against Israel, they waved Palestinian and Iraqi flags. Israeli flags were trampled and burned, an AFP photographer reported.
In response to the Hamas attack on October 7, Israel launched devastating airstrikes on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and declared a “total siege” of the Palestinian territory, which has been under an Israeli blockade for more than 15 years.
