As last year, TomTom compiled peak travel time data (around 9am, then 6pm) for the first 22 working days of the school year.. Then the result was compared with the same times when the traffic is smooth. From there, TomTom deduces the level of congestion that corresponds average duration of morning and evening trips : yes, in Paris they are lengthened by an average of 73%. To estimate the total time spent in traffic over the 22 days in the cities tracked by TomTom, we applied this congestion level to a commute home that is theoretically 1 hour long with constant traffic (30 minutes one way, 30 minutes return). And there are (unpleasant) surprises…
Large fluctuations from one city to another…
So the verdict? In Marseille it is better, but in Paris everything is more difficult, pleasantly (or he was already heavily stuck last year) and Lyon. On the other hand, things have improved further at Rennes, who were 2nd last year and are now tied for 5th with Montpellier. Elsewhere, there is a general trend towards shorter travel times… With the exception of Grenoble, Nancy (worst progression on our list) AND Towers. Finally, it improves blood circulation in Le Mans, in Orleans or even in Reims.
