On Friday morning, in the municipalities of Georgeni and Toplica in Harghita County, as well as in Mures County, 32 searches were conducted in the residences of persons suspected of committing crimes of blackmail and usury, Agerpres reports.
According to IPJ Harghita, the house searches are being carried out by police officers from the Georgeni Municipal Police under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office at the Georgeni Court, and the action is ongoing.
“From the investigation, it was stated that starting from 2019 until now, several people from the municipality of Georgeni would give different people sums of money under the title of a loan, for which they charged interest ranging from 20 to 300 lei per month. At the same time, the suspects would resort to threats and blackmail for people who would not repay the loan on time or would not be able to pay the interest,” IPJ Harghita said.
