The head of the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine, General Kyrylo Budanov, said in an interview with “Ukrainian Pravda” that Ukraine is “falling out of schedule”, but did not elaborate on his statement.
Budanov made the remark after reporters from an online newspaper asked him about his previous statement made in February this year, when he said the war could end by the end of the year. “Ukrainian Pravda” also asked him if something was wrong in the meantime.
“There are objective and subjective reasons. Everything is complex. I’m sorry, but most of the explanations are a state secret that cannot be discussed publicly. All this will become clear over time,” he replied.
However, he added that “we were entertained. We are not behind the schedule, but behind it. This is a completely different meaning… Not everything went wrong. Let’s not go into details and explain all this.”
“We’re getting off schedule – let everyone draw their own conclusions,” he closed the topic. His comment seemed so strange that the journalists of “Ukrainian Pravda” also wrote a separate article about him from a long interview in which Budanov spoke about the situation in Ukraine, as well as about the war in Israel.
Budanov says that the offensive continues in the south and in the area of Bakhmut
Then the Ukrainian general added that the offensive that began this summer continues in the south of the country, and there are also positive developments regarding attempts to recapture the city of Bakhmut in the east.
“It’s no secret that there are tough battles going on there. But as you can see, little by little, step by step, we are making progress,” he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted back in June, weeks after the summer offensive on Kyiv was believed to have begun, that it was advancing more slowly than expected.
Despite a faster advance in the second half of August in the south of the country, where the Ukrainian army threw the bulk of its offensive forces into battle, it appears that it has once again entered a phase of stagnation.
