According to the body’s response to HotNews.ro’s request, Hidroelectrica filed a data breach notification with the National Data Protection Authority on October 5. This message was sent due to errors in the “iHidro” online application. In several cases, people’s data was mixed up after installation. In particular, other people’s data appeared, with other names, phone numbers and addresses.
The National Supervisory Authority for the Processing of Personal Data also reports that it has also received a complaint regarding the same aspects regarding the online application of the operator Hidroelectrica. “The situation is under the attention of our institution for the purpose of exercising control powers,” the body’s response also states.
The regime of application of sanctions is regulated by Art. 83 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679. Administrative fines of up to €10,000,000 or, in the case of a company, up to 2% of the total annual turnover of the previous financial year, whichever is greater, may apply.
The online application “iHidro” was launched on October 2 by Hidroelectrica, which was suspended the next day due to several complaints related to errors. In addition to data confusion, there have also been complaints in some cases that users are not receiving an activation link via email. Other customers were told that accounts already existed in their names. There were also users who complained that there was no way to specify a second place of consumption.
The Hidroelectrica app is currently working fine.
Hidroelectrica program functions
- Consumption monitoring: on the main page of the application, customers can check their current balance and view the last bill issued. They can also access the consumption history graph section and report the auto reading index for better power management.
- Management of points of consumption: with iHidro, customers can manage all points of consumption for which they have a contract. In this way, they can monitor and control energy consumption for multiple addresses in a convenient and efficient way.
The iHidro program is divided into several sections, including:
Billing: Billing and payment history is available here.
Usage: In this section, you can enter the self-reading index and view the consumption history.
My Account: In this section, customers can manage their profiles and personal data.
Services: a link to Hidroelectrica’s customer portal is available in this section, and a link to Q Desk – an application for managing complaints and messages – will be added soon.
