At BMW, we don’t compromise in the SUV segment, and this new X2 and iX2 won’t tell us otherwise, because like the X1 and iX1, the new Bavarian SUV coupe offers almost every possible engine in its catalog. , pending PHEV versions.
In terms of styling, as you can see, the front end is taken from the X1, but with a modified grille and a bit more compact to give it more sportiness. Grille contours can be illuminated, as in some high-end models.
As for the rear, inspiration also comes from higher-end models, particularly the X6. Therefore, we felt more refinement in the BMW, and it all looks very massive, especially on the sporty version of the M35i with a spoiler that is located under the rear window without much elegance.
“Compact” BMW is not that compact
In terms of size, the BMW X2 and iX2 measure up The length is 4.55 meters1.84 meters wide and 1.59 meters high. This new generation occupies 19 cm compared to the previous one and 5 cm more than the X1.
Inside, it’s almost a carbon copy of the X1, and that’s good news. Overall, the BMW’s entry-level interiors are of good quality, with premium-level touches and materials, while the twin-slab still has a bit of an impact.
Called the Curved Display, this system is fully digital and combines 10.25-inch instruments with a 10.7-inch touchscreen. Everything is connected and can have over-the-air updates. It integrates GPS as well as voice control compatible with Amazon Alexa. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are, obviously.
In terms of living comfort, despite the SUV Coupé’s profile, the boot numbers announced by BMW are not ridiculous. X2 in the thermal version claims to be between 560 and 1470 literswhile the electric version is inferior to 35 L and declared between 525 and 1400 liters.
King’s choice
For the diesel, only one choice will be possible with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. 170 hp and 360 Nm of torque. On gasoline, a three-cylinder engine with a mild hybridization (sDrive20i) with a capacity of 170 hp and 240 Nm of torque. Sports version of the M35i 300 hp and 400 Nm will be there, all with four-wheel drive and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
But this version of the M35i is not the only effective variation. This privilege can also be credited to the BMW iX2, which reproduces the engine of the iX1 xDrive30, that is, the electric unit 313 hp and 494 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.6 seconds.
Its battery with a capacity of 66.25 kWh allows it to work between 417 and 449 km (depending on finish and configuration) with one charge according to the WLTP cycle. Like the iX1, the iX2 will soon be eligible for a smaller version with the eDrive20, an entry-level model with 204 hp. and 247 Nm of torque.
As for the prices, they should match the X1 prices. Then you’ll probably have to pay around €45,000 for the entry level and €47,000 for the electric version. French prices are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
