Justice Minister Alina Gorgiu says that the drug problem in Romania is becoming as acute as in the United States, in the context of which a report by the US Department of Homeland Security shows that drug trafficking and illegal consumption will be the main threats to US national security in 2024. According to her, at the meeting of the Government on Thursday, a memorandum will be included in the agenda, which provides for the addition of 25 positions of prosecutors in DIICOT.

• This comes in the context of Operation HIMERA seizing more than 20,000 pills of drugs stolen from the legal circuit in September, even to be administered. The drug problem in Romania is becoming as acute as it is abroad.
• Drugs are a public health and national security issue. Therefore, it is necessary to allocate additional personnel in DIICOT. On Thursday, the Government will present a memorandum on this: the addition of 25 positions of prosecutors,” Alina Gorghiu was quoted as saying in a press release sent by the Ministry of Justice on Monday.

She says that the legislation should be adapted to these threats, talking about the project to cancel the conditional sentence in the case of drug trafficking of increased danger and increase the punishment for the actions of conducting operations without the right of operations with products that can have psychoactive effects.
