Sepp Blatter believes that FIFA is “ruining” the final tournament of the 2030 World Cup

Sepp Blatter, 87, who was FIFA president from 1998 until 2015 when he was ousted in the FIFAgate scandal, has repeatedly been tough on his successor Gianni Infantino.

Last year, Blatter said the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar was a “mistake”.

Now he called “absurd” the decision of the World Football Forum to host six countries on three continents in 2030.

Morocco, Spain and Portugal were named as the hosts of the 2030 World Cup on Wednesday, while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host the tournament’s first matches to mark the competition’s centenary.

A bad decision, according to Blatter. “To destroy the tournament in this way is absurd. The final phase of the World Cup is a compact event,” the Swiss said, according to Agerpres.

He said the 2030 competition was to be held “exclusively in South America for historical reasons” to celebrate the centenary of the tournament, the first edition of which was organized and won by Uruguay.
