Gianni Infantino on the 2030 World Cup: “The great message of peace”

The centenary edition of the World Cup will also be the first in the history of this competition.

On Wednesday, FIFA announced that the 2030 competition will be hosted by no less than 6 countries on 3 continents.

Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will host the most important international competitions.

As the first in football, Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, explained the reasons for this decision and what is wanted from this special final tournament.

“In a divided world, FIFA and football unite. The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the World Cup, the first edition of which took place in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way.

As a result, there will be a big celebration in South America and three South American countries (Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay) will each host one match of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all started, the legendary Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, precisely to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup.

The FIFA Council also unanimously agreed that the only bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup is a joint bid by Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

Two continents, Africa and Europe, united not only to celebrate football, but also to create a unique social and cultural unity. A great message of peace, tolerance and inclusion.

In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents: Africa, Europe and South America; six countries: Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay welcome and unite the world as we celebrate football and the centenary of the FIFA World Cup.” Gianni Infantino said.
