Dumitru Buzatu remains in custody, the Iasi Court of Appeal ruled on Friday in a case in which he was caught by anti-corruption prosecutors after accepting a 1.25 million lei bribe from Emil Savin, a businessman from Cluj whose company had works on the strategic Bârlad road – Laza – Codăeşti.

Thus, the Court of Appeal of Iasi rejected Buzat’s appeal against the decision of the court of Vaslui on preventive arrest.

The same decision was made by the Court of Appeal of Iasi in the case of expert Radu Yudele.

On Saturday (September 23), the court of Vaslui decided to remand Dumitr Buzat for 30 days in a case in which anti-corruption prosecutors accuse him of receiving 1.25 million lei as a bribe from a businessman whose company was carrying out work on the strategic road Bârlad – Laza – Codăeşti.

The accusations that DNA makes against Dumitra Buzat:

• “In the period 08.05.2023 – 07.09.2023, the defendant Buzatu Dumitru, performing the above-mentioned position, allegedly demanded from the entrepreneur (the specified witness) sums of money in the amount of 10% of the value of the contract. public procurement, which the latter concluded with the Vaslui District Council and the purpose of which was the reconstruction and modernization of some roads in the Vaslui District, so that the contract was executed under proper conditions (payment of bills).
• In the above context, on September 22, 2023, the accused Buzatu Dumitru would have received the sum of 1,250,000 lei, in connection with which a flagrant crime was established.”

Dumitru Buzatu personally received the money marked with DNA and found in the suitcase. He put the suitcase in the trunk of the institutional car, and two hours later he was caught.

• “At 17:15 (…) and Buzatu Dumitru got up from the table and went to cars of the brand (…) and the brand (…). Buzatu Dumitru went to the trunk (…) and (…) to the car (…), where he opened the rear left door and took a brown bag from the place provided by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, which contained the sum of 1,250,000 lei . Chief CJ Vaslui was stopped almost two hours later when the money was in the county council car.

“Later, on September 22, 2023, around 7:12 p.m., a car (…) from n. registration (…) used by the Vaslui County Council was stopped at the exit from the farm (…) and the name BUZATU Dumitru was identified in the car accompanied by a driver employed by the Vaslui County Council. During the inspection of the car, a brown bag with a bill of 500 lei was found in the trunk of the car on the left side,” says the protocol with the proposal for preventive arrest, drawn up by the prosecutor’s office. Buzatu received 2,500 500 lei banknotes marked by investigators for a daring act. The money received as a bribe was for a contract with European funds.

PSD President Marcel Cholaku announced on Saturday after a meeting of the National Permanent Bureau that Buzatu had been expelled from the PSD and his son Tudor Buzatu had resigned from his position as State Secretary in the General Secretariat of the Government. Dumitra Buzata’s ex-wife, PSD senator Gabriela Kretsa, was also suspended from the party.
