​David Beckham and Ronaldo competed in the same team at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, but did not play football.

David Beckham and Ronaldo, India’s track cycling teammates

David Beckham Elkatohchungo and Ronaldo Laitonjam Singh represented India in the track cycling event.

They helped the Indian team qualify but then lost to Japan in the first round.

In the individual sprint competition, David Beckham qualified in the quarters (match with the Japanese Kaya Ota), and Ronaldo was eliminated in eighth place.

David explained how he chose the name of the famous English football player who currently owns the Inter Miami club.

“My father was a football player of the national team and was a big fan of David Beckham. When I was born, he told my mother: if there is a boy, he will be called David Beckham.

I played football as a child, at the age of 14. I switched to cycling in 2017, five years ago I started my career as a professional cyclist in Delhi and now I am playing in a professional league.” – David Beckham Elkatohchungoquoted by AFP.

On the other hand, Lightonjam explained that his father was a fan of Ronaldinho. He made a bet that the Brazilian would score against England in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, and then learned that his wife had gone into labour.

“As soon as the ball entered the goal, I think I started to discover my goal. I think my dad made some money that day. That’s probably why I got that name. He felt that I was very lucky for him” – Ronaldo Lightonjam Singh for a Hindu.
