Wales became the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, hosted by France, after thrashing Australia 40-6 in a Group C match.

In front of a crowd of 55,296 in Lyon, the Welsh scored three tries (Davies, Tompkins and Morgan) while the other points came from six penalties, a conversion and a drop goal (all by Anscombe).

The 1991 and 1999 world champions Australia are tied with Fiji and are close to being eliminated from the group stage (not since the first World Cup in 1987).

Australia will next play Portugal (October 1), while Fiji will play Georgia (September 30) and Portugal (October 8).
