“Some of the members are from the Islamic State (IS) and the attackers have a history of ties to Takfiri groups in Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraqi Kurdistan,” Iran’s intelligence ministry added in a statement.

The militant group has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Iran, including two deadly bombings in 2017 that targeted Iran’s parliament and the tomb of the Islamic Republic’s founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The jihadist group also claimed responsibility for an attack on a Shiite shrine last October that killed 15 people in the southwestern city of Shiraz.
