American actor Angus Cloud, one of the main characters of the popular series “Euphoria”, died in July at the age of 25 from an “accidental overdose”, the coroner announced on Thursday, reports AFP.
The cause of his death was unknown until now, which has given rise to several speculations.
“Angus Cloud died from a lethal mixture of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and a benzodiazepine in what is believed to be an accidental overdose,” a spokesman for the Alameda County Medical Examiner’s Office in California told AFP.
“Angus suffered acute intoxication associated with this mixture of drugs,” he added.
The actor played drug dealer Fesco “Fez” O’Neill opposite actress Zendaya in HBO’s hit series Euphoria, which won multiple Emmys.
He was dealing with the recent death of his father and suffered from mental health issues, his family said in an obituary.
“Angus was open about his struggle with mental illness and we hope his death will remind others that they are not alone and that they do not have to struggle alone in silence,” the family said in a statement.
The series “Euphoria” offers a gloomy chronicle of the lives of modern American teenagers, for whom drug addiction and sexual violence are part of everyday life.
The production was critically acclaimed, but was also heavily criticized online for its glorification of drug use.
Cloud had previously played small roles in independent films, but the series gave him his first breakthrough role. He was spotted by a casting director while walking with friends through the streets of Brooklyn, New York.
