
A school orchestra bus ran off a New York state highway and crashed on Thursday. Authorities called the incident a “mass casualty.” CNN reports at least one dead, and at least 46 people were injured, according to Reuters.
According to a Farmingdale school district statement released to local media, the bus was transporting high school band members from Farmingdale, New York, in Nassau County, on a field trip to band camp in Greeley, Pennsylvania.
The bus left the road and fell into the valley.
“Police and rescuers [sunt] on the spot, as well as the district management,” the message said without elaborating.
At least 46 people were injured, five of them in serious condition, most of them young.
