Lavrov, who was Russia’s ambassador to the UN for many years, replied to the Ukrainian president that the right of veto is a “legitimate” legal instrument granted to the five permanent members of the Security Council (USA, China, Russia, USA). Kingdom and France).

“The application of the right of veto is an absolutely legitimate tool provided for in the UN Charter to prevent decisions that lead to the dissolution of the UN,” the Russian minister defended.

Any reform of the Security Council, especially regarding the rights of permanent members, is an illusion.

Amendments to the UN Charter must be adopted by at least a two-thirds vote of the members of the General Assembly and then ratified by two-thirds of the members of the UN, including the five permanent members of the Security Council.
