Real Madrid got the new UEFA Champions League season off to a flying start with a dramatic 1-0 home win over Union Berlin in their Group C opener.

Union Berlin are close to a good result at the Santiago Bernabeu

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid visited Union Berlin, a team playing in the UEFA Champions League groups for the first time.

The Bundesliga side, drawn in Group C alongside Real Madrid, Napoli and Sporting Braga, came close to drawing at the Santiago Bernabeu late in a game dominated by the Spanish vice-champions.

The formation prepared by Carlo Ancelotti was missing great moments to take the goal. In the 51st minute, Rodrigo hit the bar, the ball bounced to Kamavinga, who threw it over the goal.

Minutes later, Rodrigo Joselu’s cross also hit the post, but Madrid’s efforts were rewarded in the end.

After Fede Valverde’s shot was blocked, the ball found its way to Jude Bellingham and the Englishman became the hero, giving his side victory in the fourth minute of added time.

Galatasaray’s dramatic draw with FC Copenhagen

In the other match, also kicking off at 19:45, Galatasaray drew 2-2 at home to FC Copenhagen despite the Danes leading 2-0.

In the 35th minute, Mohamed Elyunussi opened the score against the visitors, and in the 58th minute, Diogu Gonsalves made the score 2:0.

At the end of the match, the Turks fought back and won a point.

First, Sax Boy reduced the deficit in the 86th minute, and two minutes later Wilfried Zaha sent a superb shot to Tete, who volleyed past Grabara into the short corner.
