MG: here’s the upcoming news from the Chinese manufacturer Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

This is a brand experiencing rapid growth in France after his return in 2019. MG, formerly Morris Garages and now under the Chinese flag, increasing launches with us. Its model range already includes 5 models, from SUVs to wagons, with offers in petrol, hybrid and electric versions. In 2022, it grew in our market by 166%, registering 13,170 cars ! The success is due to the formidable price war it is waging in the European market: its compact electric MG4 family costs, for example, €8,000 less than the Renault Mégane E-Tech, 13,000 euros less than the Tesla Model 3! Its ZS petrol crossover even costs €500 less than the Dacia Duster…

MG introduces innovations in electric power

To further satisfy its presence in Europe, MG is preparing several innovations – in particular, in the area of electrical engineering. First, the brand will enter the market from next year semi-solid battery on one of its models. Unlike the widely used lithium-ion batteries, semi-solid batteries have the advantage of offering better energy density. Vulgarly, with be able to store more electricity. Many manufacturers are working on the development of such batteries to offer – in size and weight equivalent to lithium-ion batteries – better electrical autonomy : potentially up to 1000 km! This architecture also allows much shorter recharge time : the brand claims 80% recovery in just 10 minutes…

Electronic steering and autonomous driving

Another innovation that the British Chinese have prepared for us: electronic steering by cable. Toyota and Tesla dream of it, MG could be the first to introduce it on a production car. Compared to the classic rack and pinion steering fitted to most of our cars, this allows you to maneuver with greater precision, while reducing the range of motion during movement. With such a system, for example, we would no longer need to cross our arms on the steering wheel to make a maneuver: a simple half turn of the steering wheel would allow the wheels to turn as much as possible. An innovation that is as practical as it is safe according to the brand. Recent aspects MG is currently working on: autonomous drivingAND sports electric cars. We may have some nice surprises next year…
