When you go to work, you are usually alone in the car. Obviously, this is not an estimate given with a wet finger, but rather a reality confirmed by the latest figures of a study carried out by Vinci Autoroutes. Indeed, at the moment no less than 83.3% of motorists are single in your car for your daily rush hour commute. That is, from 7 to 9 in the morning. A figure that apparently remains very high and demonstrates drivers’ commitment to self-driving, sometimes by choice or necessity.

Falling figure

However, this trend is gradually declining. Of course, most drivers will remain alone in their cars for a very long time. But the numbers speak for themselves, because in 2022 84.7% of motorists traveled independently. The decline is just under one point year-on-year, suggesting drivers are still putting in little effort. And this can be seen, because during the same time the practice of sharing cars has increased somewhat. And this is undoubtedly thanks to the financial incentives introduced by the government. But this is not enough for state authorities.

Not all are good students

Indeed, according to the goals set by France until 2030 in the framework National low-carbon strategy, it will be necessary to double the number of people who practice car sharing. But while students in some cities are very good, others are still lagging behind. This is, for example, the case of Marseille, as well as Nice and Nantes. It is not surprising that it is in Ile-de-France that the practice of independent driving is the lowest – “only” 74.5%. Despite everything, the numbers are encouraging!
