Russia struck the Kremenchug oil refinery in central Ukraine’s Poltava region overnight in a drone attack that caused a fire, Governor Dmytro Lunin said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
The work of the oil refinery has been temporarily suspended, a Ukrainian official said, adding that there are no reports of possible victims.
“Last night, the Russians repeatedly attacked the Poltava region. Our air defense system coped well with enemy drones,” he said.
The refinery has been repeatedly attacked by Russia since it invaded Ukraine last year.
Ukrainian air defense systems shot down 17 of the 24 drones that Russia launched over Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian military said.
Reuters says it could not independently verify the information.
