Simona Halep was officially banned for four years due to the doping scandal, and her lawyer made some clarifications about the relationship with the ITIA, accusing the institution of not trying to find out the truth.

Simona Halep did not deny the positive test and was ready to accept an immediate sanction

Simona Halep was handed a 4-year doping ban by the Sport Resolutions tribunal and the International Tennis Integrity Agency released a 126-page file containing numerous aspects of the proceedings.

The file contains information about the identities of people who would have recommended the contaminated supplement to Simone, as well as details related to the former world leader’s arguments about irregularities in the biological passport.

Bohdan Stoyka, Simona Halep’s lawyer, has provided new details of the relationship with the International Tennis Integrity Agency, which, he says, has not agreed to cooperate and discuss to find out the truth.

“We also did tests with a volunteer who ate the collagen that Simone also used, according to the amount and protocol per day. After 3-4 days, a urinalysis was performed and tested positive for roxadustat, thus confirming collagen contamination and the fact that this collagen can identify a positive sample.

All this was passed on to ITIA and we proposed to meet with ITIA experts to re-test and come to a common conclusion, immediately accepting that Simona’s test on August 29, 2022 was positive.

We no longer objected that this would be an invalid test. There were differences between sample A and sample B. This happens when the amounts detected are so small, absolutely tiny.

ITIA refused to discuss any form of cooperation, they did not even allow us to go to their laboratory in Salt Lake, they did their own tests with their own equipment and methods and told us that they detected roxadustat in these samples.

I don’t know if you can talk about bad faith, but I believe that ITIA is not an institution aimed at finding out the truth, but at destroying the athletes it investigates. Of course, they are in the position of prosecutors and they understand it, we absolutely agree that Simona had a positive test.

We were open to discussing sanctions that we would accept immediately, but they did not agree. They wanted to delay all procedures, to involve experts in order to delay all procedural stages.

I can only think that an institution like this, with a huge budget, feels the need to justify its existence since it has only had a handful of cases. When it comes to the best athlete, it matters even more.

In the discussions we’ve had, they’ve been betting that it might lead to some admission of drug use. Knowing Simone’s profile, he said he would never admit to consuming anything, if he hadn’t he could have given him 100 years.” – said Bohdan Stoykafor DigiSport.
