Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is returning to the White House on Tuesday to perform at an art event, marking her first public appearance at the US presidential residence since losing the 2016 election to Donald Trump, Reuters reported.

Clinton will attend the event with First Lady Jill Biden to recognize the recipients of the Praemium Imperiale, a worldwide art award given by the Japan Art Association for lifetime achievement in the arts.

A former US senator and first lady, Clinton, a Democrat, was the first woman nominated by a major US political party for president.

She was also a diplomat in Barack Obama’s cabinet.

The winners of the art award were first honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in 1994.

Despite spending a lot of time in the White House during the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton never returned during Republican Trump’s four years in office.

With Joe Biden in the White House in 2021, Clinton is back, but not to make public statements. She attended a dinner in honor of Angela Merkel, then German chancellor, early in Biden’s term, and met with Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman to hold the position.

Biden and Clinton call themselves friends. When he was vice president and she was secretary of state under Obama, they had a weekly breakfast to discuss world affairs.
