Spanish police have arrested a man for sexually assaulting a journalist after he touched her behind while she was on air, prompting outrage from ministers, Reuters reported.
The incident comes as Spain is embroiled in a sexism debate after Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales kissed player Jennifer Hermoso against her will after winning the World Cup.
The scandal grew into a “Me Too” movement that grew in a nation increasingly intolerant of the macho.
On Tuesday, Isa Balado spoke about a robbery in Madrid when a man approached her from behind and touched her bottom before asking what TV station she worked for.
Balado explained that he was in the middle of a live broadcast and tried to continue his report, but the host – Nacho Abad – insisted on putting the man on camera. She confronted the man, telling him he was just trying to do his job.
As he walked away, he gently touched her head. The man continued to linger outside and approached her again, saying he had heard her accusations and had to “tell the truth.”
Balado asked to stop the show because he didn’t want to pay more attention to the man.
Police said in a message on X, formerly Twitter, that a man had been arrested for sexually assaulting a reporter.
