​Apple has released new iPhone 15 phones that feature significant changes after the European Commission forced Apple to switch to USB-C. The new phones aren’t groundbreaking, but they do promise better cameras, faster processors, and batteries that last longer between charges.

The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen.

The iPhone 15 starts at $799 in the US, and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899. iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 in the US (128GB); and the iPhone 15 Pro Max starting at $1,199 (256GB storage). Orders can be placed from September 15, and deliveries will start from September 22.

To comply with EU legislation that will come into effect in 2024, the iPhone 15 phones have a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning, the iPhone standard since 2012, when it was introduced on the iPhone 5. Until then, the iPhone had a 30-pin connector , which debuted on the iPod.

Other Apple products also feature USB-C, and this standardization is intended to help customers avoid the need for a multitude of different cables. Apple initially protested the obligation to replace the sockets, but complied with it. In the presentation, talking about USB-C, Apple excitedly stated that a single cable can charge many types of devices, such as iPhone, Mac or iPad.

The iPhone 15 now has a 48MP wide-angle primary camera, which is a significant change from previous years.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in the following colors: yellow, pink, green, blue and black. The company says “all day” battery life and that the battery is bigger, but doesn’t give percentages.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have the A16 Bionic processor, present last year on the most expensive iPhone models.

The flagship models iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone Pro Max have a titanium coating and, thanks to this alloy, are lighter. The iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.7-inch screen. “It’s titanium similar to what was used on the Mars rover,” says Apple. Both have the new A17 Pro processor.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro will be available in four color options.

The company is announcing improvements to the iPhone 15 Pro cameras, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max featuring a 5X, 120mm telephoto camera. The iPhone 15 Pro model has a 3x optical zoom.

The Dynamic Island view at the top center of the screen, present in the Fall 2022 generation on Pro models, is now available on all models.

The presentation was, as Apple is used to, full of hyperbole: “the most refined”, “the thinnest”, “the most efficient”, “the fastest”, “fantastic”, “revolutionary”. Magical Island was defined as “magical”.

At the beginning of the live broadcast on YouTube, a million people watched, and when the iPhone presentation began, there were more than 2.5 million.

Last year, Apple generated more than $205 billion in sales thanks to the iPhone. In terms of number of units, America was in first place with 100 million, while Europe sold 56 million. Apple’s market capitalization is $2.77 trillion.

There are currently more than 1.3 million iPhones in use worldwide, of which 150 million are in the United States. The share of the iPhone in the smartphone market is growing and approaching 20%.

More than 232 million iPhones were sold worldwide last year, with the best quarter being the last in 2022 with 72 million units. The best quarter in the iPhone’s 16-year history was the most recent in 2020, when more than 90 million units were sold. The weakest quarter in five years was the second quarter of 2019, when 33 million units were shipped.

Last year, Apple’s total revenue was $394 billion, double what it was in 2014 and six times what it was in 2010.
