The unusual event is explained by an accident at the Levira distillery in the hills near the village. Two cisterns with wine suddenly broke, waves of Bacchus liquor poured onto the roads in this settlement.

According to Diaro de Coimbra, the wine flooded nearby roads and entered at least one private cellar.

The authorities managed to prevent the liquid from entering the river near the village.

The distillery said it “deeply regrets the incident” and that some of the lost alcohol was recovered and transported to a processing plant (Photo Source Dreamstime).
