Russia announced on Monday that it shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine, without casualties, AFP and Agerpres reported.
On Monday, around 01:20 Moscow time (22:20 GMT Sunday), “active air defense systems destroyed two aircraft over the territory of the Belgorod region,” the Russian Ministry of Defense reported in Telegram.
“Our defense worked in the Yakovliv district: two drones were shot down. There are no casualties,” regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Telegram, adding that the remains of the devices fell on the road, near a residential building.
Belgorod Oblast is located in the west of Russia, on the border with Kharkiv Oblast, on the Ukrainian coast.
Attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian cities near Ukraine, in the annexed Crimea or the capital Moscow have become more frequent in recent months against the background of Kyiv’s counteroffensive, which began in early June.
On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, two Ukrainian drones were destroyed over Rostov-on-Don – the logistics center of the Russian army, which is located in the south-west of Russia, less than 150 kilometers from Ukraine.
