An 8-year-old girl was bitten by a wolf on Friday at the Sibiu City Zoo after putting her hand through the animal fence, transported with a wound to her palm by the SMURD team to the city’s emergency children’s hospital, a spokesman for the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) said. “The SMURD crew urgently intervened at Sibiu Zoo to treat an 8-year-old girl who was bitten by a wolf. It appears that the girl put her hand through the protective fence and was bitten on the palm. She was rushed to the Pediatric Hospital of Sibiu, conscious condition, stable for providing medical assistance,” explained Andrea Štefan.

The zoo in Sibiu has posted notices warning visitors not to approach animal cages outside the security zone and not to stick their hands through the bars.

“Examinations, specialist consultations, local treatment of the wound, vaccination against tetanus were carried out. The girl will also benefit from a consultation with an infectious disease specialist to receive recommendations at home,” said the spokesperson of the Sibiu Pediatric Clinical Hospital, Dr. Ioana Matekutse.
