The United States announced Thursday new military aid to Ukraine worth $600 million, including demining equipment and various types of ammunition, AFP reported.
This aid is aimed at covering “Ukraine’s needs on the battlefield” and demonstrates the “unwavering support” of the United States, the Pentagon said in a statement.
However, this new aid will not be immediately available on the ground, as it is part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Program, through which Washington provides equipment to the country through its defense industry or its partners.
The US announcement comes a day after a $1 billion program involving depleted uranium anti-tank munitions to give “new impetus” to Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russian forces.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced this assistance to Ukraine during a surprise visit to this country.
For the first time, the United States intends to deliver to Ukraine such depleted uranium munitions, which are causing controversy because of the toxic risks to the military and the population. (Agerpress)
