Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church Daniil addressed a message at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year, in which he calls for the cultivation of Christian teachings in the lives of students, parents and teachers, reports Agerpres.
“In a mechanized and secularized society, in which spiritual values are neglected and worthless and ephemeral models are often promoted, it is necessary to reorient education to teachings that come from the Gospel of the humble and merciful love of Christ. In the Family, Church and School, it is urgent to use the formative specificity of religious education, which contributes to the affirmation of the eternal value and dignity of the human personality, as well as reducing the negative consequences of the modern crisis of identity and orientation,” said the Patriarch.
The head of the BOR emphasizes that the holy apostle Paul shows the benefit of acquiring knowledge from the Holy Scriptures:
“Everything that was written before was written for our learning, so that through patience and comfort from the Scriptures we may have hope” (Rom. 15, 4). At the same time, the Apostle of the Gentiles warns about the danger of deceptive teaching: so that we are no longer children who are carried by the waves, carried to and fro by all kinds of winds of teaching, because of the deception of people, because of their cunning, to cunning, but that we hold on to the truth with love, let us grow in everything for Him, who is the Head – Christ” (Eph. 4, 14-15). “Teacher” (Mt. 23:10) and “Light of the world” (John 8:12) is the Lord Jesus Christ, the One who said: “I am the resurrection and the life; Whoever believes in Me, even if he dies, he will live” (John 11, 25)”, Patriarch Daniel reports.
It also states that “transmitting with wisdom, patience and love the eternal values of the Christian faith, a deep spiritual meaning of life is revealed, love for people and all of God’s creation is cultivated, and communication between generations is promoted. “, recalling that 2023, declared by the Romanian Patriarchate as the Honorable Year of Pastoral Care for the Elderly, “we gratefully remember the grandparents who support children’s efforts in obtaining a healthy education.”
“We pray to the Holy Trinity, the Source of life and eternal love, to enlighten and fill the souls of students, parents, grandparents, teachers and professors with peace and joy, to be a blessing for the Church and the Romanian people,” this is also shown in the message of Patriarch Daniel.
