
Thule is an indispensable brand for travel and leisure: the equipment manufacturer offers bike racks, crossbars, roof boxes and even car tents, as well as awnings and other canopies for recreational vehicles.
If roof tents are becoming more and more fashionable on our roads, this time the Swedish brand presents a completely new product on the occasion of the recent Dusseldorf Motor Show: the car tent. Thule Outsetwhich has to be innovative as it takes place on a sphere.
Thule Outset: an innovative and smart product
The roof tent is a bit limited in practice: even though it has some advantages, you have to deploy it on the roof of your car and then use a ladder to get to it before folding it up and securing it the next morning so we can get back to the road
More intelligent, that one trailer tent The Thule Outset aims to provide an alternative for camping when travelling, by mounting on a trailer hitch: when closed, it takes the form of a boot that is 144cm wide, 90cm high and 73cm deep, weighing 72kg the same.
The wheels allow you to move the device around in your car, so you can mount it on a tow ball before leaving. Unlike a tent on the roof, this solution is placed in the back of the car and therefore allows respect its aerodynamics, to limit excess fuel consumption or preserve the autonomy of the electric vehicle, while limiting the height of access to parking lots. It can also tilt back for easier access to the luggage compartment and has a number plate holder and lighting fixtures as per regulations.
Stationary tent on the campsite
When you arrive at the campsite, all you have to do is set the frame on the ground, which will act as a support, thanks to a set of aluminum bars. Then you can set up the Outset tent, which can accommodate two people bed 140 x 200 cm, and mount it in minutes. An operation that can be done independently without the need for outside help.
Another advantage: if you want to use your car for a day trip, you don’t need to pack everything: you just need to disconnect the Thule Outset from your tow ball, to leave it in place at the campsite. Thanks to its frame on the ground, the tent rises and allows you to avoid certain camping inconveniences such as rocks, water, dirt or insects. Mosquito nets are also built into the three holes.
The Thule Outset car tent will be released in spring 2024 in France, to a the price is 4499 euros.
