US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during his surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital, joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba for a meal at McDonald’s, where the two joked about hangovers in front of the cameras, reports Guardian.

“When I was a student, the best hangover meal was going to McDonald’s,” Kuleba said, eating a cherry pie.

“I’m sure that rarely happened,” Blinken responded with a laugh.

“I would go to McDonald’s and get a double cheeseburger, a large Coke, and that would be my hangover breakfast.”

“That’s never happened to me,” Blinken said, eating fries.

Asked how the previous meeting went, the US secretary of state said it “was very good” but “it was appropriate to celebrate with fries”.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday as a sign of support. On the first day of his two-day visit, he announced a new military aid package worth more than $1 billion, including support for Ukraine’s air defenses.

“In the current counter-offensive, progress has accelerated over the past few weeks. This new aid will help preserve it and create a new momentum,” Blinken told reporters at a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.

Blinken previously described the progress as important and “very, very encouraging,” according to Reuters.

U.S. media outlets have quoted U.S. officials as saying the Ukrainian counteroffensive was too slow and hampered by poor tactics — criticism that angered Ukrainian officials and prompted Kuleb to tell critics to “shut up.”

On the same day that Blinken arrived in Kyiv, Russia launched a powerful strike on the town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, killing at least 17 people and injuring more than 30.
