The automobile company Magna International, which manufactures cars in Austria, in Graz, is negotiating with Chinese automakers, writes Bloomberg. Magna does not have its own brand, but is known for producing dozens of models for various car brands.

Magna International – a Canadian-Austrian company – manufactures in Graz for large builders as well as various smaller companies, many of which do not have their own factory and do not require large volumes. For example, cars of a little-known car brand are now produced in Graz: Fisler, among others.

Uwe Geisinger, chairman of Magna Europa, said there was an opportunity to increase production at the Graz plant.

Magna International wants to move more and more to electric cars and from 2026 it will assemble cars for a French manufacturer called Ineos, which has so far had success with an SUV (Grenadier) made in France by a company called Ineos, a model that does not currently have only thermal engine.

It remains to be seen whether the manufacturing costs promised by Magna for the Chinese will be low enough to make it worthwhile to assemble the model in Austria, rather than bringing it from 10,000 km away.

Magna also wants to open a plant in the US.

Over its history, Magna has assembled more than 4 million vehicles from 31 different models, including the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jaguar I-PACE and E-PACE, BMW 5 Series and Z4 Toyota GR Supra.
