The younger brother of the Mercedes G-Class is on the way. We knew that the Stuttgart company was working on this new product for several months, and at the Munich Motor Show Mercedes says a little more when revealing the first image.

This is a sketch that appeared at the end of the presentation of the concept car, which is a prototype of the future electric CLA. Although this only reveals the silhouette of the G-Class, Mercedes voluntarily included a lowercase g to symbolize its small size..

Mercedes plans to compete with the upcoming “small” Defender from Land Rover

On this occasion, Ola Kellenius, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Director of Mercedes-Benz, stated that it will be electric and “that it would be great for off-roading and was instantly recognisable”.

The first rumors about the possible market entry of the younger brother of the G-class appeared in February 2023. As we already mentioned, the “baby G” should appear on the new MMA platform from Mercedes, the same one that will be used for the future CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA and GLB from 2024. This model should be a direct response to Land Rover, which should introduce the small Defender next year.

Younger brother for future EQG

But the small G-Class will not be the only important off-road electric novelty of the Stuttgart firm. Indeed, in early 2024, Mercedes is due to unveil the long-awaited EQG, a 100% electric version of the G-Class equipped with four electric motors.

The Mercedes EQG will also be equipped with super batteries with a silicon anode, and from 2025 the electric version of the SUV will have the innovative Sila batteries with a density of 800 Wh/l as an option.
