Ukraine plans to increase the production of drones this fall, Ukraine’s defense minister said on Sunday, as the country has increased the number of drone attacks on Russian territory, Reuters reports.
Attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian territory have intensified in recent weeks, dozens of drones have struck Russia in a few days, reaching as far as the city of Pskov in the west of the country, which is 600 km from Ukraine.
Kyiv used both aerial drones to attack airfields and water drones to attack ships and the Kerch bridge in Crimea.
“I think that the production of various Ukrainian drones will be increased this fall: flying, hovering, etc., and it will grow in volume,” Oleksiy Reznikov told the Ukrinform state agency.
He said one of the reasons for the increase in production is that the government has changed various rules and laws.
“So we rewrote the rules … and we simplified the procedures. And I think we’ve done that as well, and it’s given us the opportunity for that kind of growth. Especially for drone manufacturers who started production in garages,” he said.
Ukraine is largely dependent on supplies of modern Western weapons, but Kyiv has pledged not to use them on the territory of Russia, and for such attacks it uses only domestically produced weapons, primarily drones.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday that it had destroyed a total of 281 Ukrainian drones over the past week, including 29 in Russia’s western regions, signaling the scale of the drone war between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukraine attacked several airfields on the territory of Russia, for example, the center of Moscow, as well as military bases both in occupied Crimea and in regions near the border with Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials typically say little or nothing about attacks on Russian targets, but say that destroying Russian infrastructure is vital to the country’s military efforts.
