American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, best known for the hit “Margaritaville,” a tribute to life in the tropics, has died at the age of 76, Reuters reported on his website on Saturday.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song until his last breath, and many will regret him immeasurably,” said the statement published on the website.
Released in 1977, “Margaritaville” peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 22 weeks on the chart, making it the artist’s most popular single.
Buffett recorded 27 studio albums – four platinum and eight gold – during a five-decade career that included, in addition to music, writing bestsellers and managing a business empire. (Source: Agerpres)
