Drone attacks on Russian territory will increase, and recent attacks have shown that the war in Ukraine is gradually shifting to Russia, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak warned, Reuters reports.

The adviser ruled out peace talks for now, saying any talks would mean “surrender” to Ukraine and the democracies that support it.

Ukraine has increased its attacks on the occupied territories, and attacks inside Russia by “agencies” or “partisans” will also increase, Podolyak said.

“As far as Russia is concerned … the number of attacks by unidentified drones from the territory of the Russian Federation is increasing, and the number of these attacks will increase,” Podolyak told Reuters.

“Because this is the stage of the war… when hostilities are gradually transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation,” he said in an interview from his office in Kyiv.

Drone attacks on Russia have increased dramatically in scale and frequency in recent weeks, culminating this week in strikes that hit six Russian regions overnight and destroyed transport planes in a fire at a military airfield.

Ukraine generally approves of such attacks, but does not openly claim direct responsibility for them. His Western allies prohibit him from using the weapons he donates to strike Russia, although they argue that Kyiv has the right to carry out such attacks on military targets with its own weapons.

As the attacks increased, Kyiv touted its progress in developing long-range weapons to respond to Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian cities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Thursday praised the use of, according to him, new Ukrainian weapons with a range of 700 km, which is approximately the distance from the Ukrainian border to Pskov, where the Russian military air base was engulfed in flames the day before.

A wave of attacks from Russia and Crimea

Drone strikes have been reported in Russia’s Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Oryol and Ryazan regions, as well as in Crimea, Russian officials said.

The most significant attack appears to have occurred in Pskov, about 660 km north of the Ukrainian border, near the borders with Estonia and Latvia, where Russian officials said four Il-76 military transport planes were damaged.

Images posted by the governor of Pskov on Telegram show a large fire, sirens and at least one explosion. Other messages in Telegram channels showed the operation of anti-aircraft systems around the city, which is located only 32 km east of the border with Estonia.

Another clip, which appeared on the network, allegedly showed an Il-76 plane destroyed by fire at the Pskov airport.
