Olena Rybakina: “I became a professional at the age of 17. I didn’t have a personal trainer”

Born in Moscow, Rybakina represented Russia under the age of 18, but decided to play for Kazakhstan because she had no financial support.

Elena said that she did not have a personal trainer and explained how her career was affected by the problems she faced in the past.

“All my injuries are a consequence of the fact that I became a professional tennis player quite late. Few people know that I became a professional at the age of 17. I used to train with only a few players.

I didn’t have a personal trainer. I also had to go to school and juggle it all. My physical form could not reach the maximum level. And I think some of the trauma I’m dealing with now is a result of the past.

I also got to learn how my body works. But here’s the thing, there are things you can’t control. There are many changes in tennis.

Last year was not easy for me. All eyes were directed at me, something new was happening around me. I needed to figure it all out and I wasn’t prepared enough for the US Open.

At the age of 24, Olena won Wimbledon-2022 and played in the final of the Australian Open-2023. The best result at the US Open is reaching the third round (2021), and at Roland Garros she reached the quarterfinals (2021).

• The match between Sorana Kirstea and Elena Rybakina will be the second in the evening session at the Louis Armstrong Arena and could start around 04:00 (Romanian time). Live broadcast of the match on Eurosport.
