Beatrice Haddad Maia defeated by Taylor Townsend at the US Open – Belinda Bencic and Coco Gauff close in third round

The 19th seed at Flushing Meadows, the Brazilian answered back from Townsend in the first set, which went to a tiebreak, and the American won convincingly: 7-1.

Haddad Maia also failed to recover in the second set, with Townsend in control and managing to close out the match before another tie-break after missing two match points.

While Taylor Townsend reached the round of 16 at the US Open in 2019, Beatrice Haddad Maia, a semi-finalist at this year’s Australian Open, has yet to make it past the first round.

Instead, the Swiss Belinda Bencic (13 WTA) easily overcame the British Yuriko Lily Miyazaki (198 WTA), score 6-3, 6-3.

And the favorite at number 6 Coco Gauff easily defeated 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva after two sets 6-3, 6-2.

US Open 2023 will be held from August 28 to September 10, and the most important matches from Flushing Meadows will be on HotNews.ro every day. Titled champions – Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Svyatek.
