The fourth seed at Flushing Meadows, Holger Roon lost in four sets to Roberto Carballes Baena (63 ATP), 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (15) eliminated American Mackenzie MacDonald (40 ATP), score 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. The player, who is coached by Toni Nadal, has suffered 12 defeats in the last 16 matches played.

Italian Lorenzo Musetti (18) was defeated in the deciding set by Frenchman Titouan Droguet (171 ATP, more used to Challenger tournaments), 6-3, 0-6, (5)6-7, 6-3, 6 – 2.

Oleksandr Bublyk (25) lost to Austrian Dominic Thiem (81 ATP, 2020 champion), 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. The athlete who represented Kazakhstan became the negative hero of the day in New York, after he did even Nick Kyrgios found the statement appalling.
