The four-time Olympic champion delighted the audience with a final floor performance that earned her 15.400 points, a final score of 118.450.

This eighth national title in the individual event allowed him to break Alfred Jochim’s record of seven in 1933.

At 26, she also became the oldest gymnast to win a national title in any event, ten years after her first title. Shea Jones, who finished second in 2022, was 3.9 points behind her.

Sunday’s win was the second in as many contests since returning from a two-year layoff.

She withdrew from most of the 2021 Olympics in Japan for mental health and safety reasons.

The gymnast explained that she suffered a “twisting” attack, a dangerous loss of orientation in space that puts athletes at risk of injury when landing, News.ro reported.
