According to an official decision posted on Facebook, Ms Mangoush has been “temporarily suspended” and is subject to an “administrative investigation” by a commission chaired by the Minister of Justice, the government led by Abdelhamid Dbaybah announced on Sunday evening.

Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen announced that he had spoken with his Libyan counterpart, Najla al-Mangoush, in an “unprecedented” meeting in Rome last week.

“I spoke with the foreign minister about the great potential of relations between the two countries,” said Eli Cohen.

He added that he had discussed with the Libyan foreign minister “the importance of preserving the heritage of Libyan Judaism by renovating synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in this country.”

According to the minister, this is “the first step in relations between Israel and Libya.” “The size and strategic location of Libya offer enormous opportunities for the state of Israel,” the head of Israeli diplomacy emphasized.

The meeting was held under the patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, the press release states. A
