The parents of Vlad Pascu, the boy who killed two youths under the influence of drugs on May 2 as part of a group of eight, reacted to the case for the first time on Monday evening, telling HotNews.ro that they are not trying to “shield” their son from responsibility.

Miruna and Mihai Pasku, the 19-year-old’s parents, responded in a statement sent to HotNews.ro, saying they are trying to find a balance and offering their support for the necessary treatment, which “will help families who are going through great difficulties.”

• “There are no words to express our pain and shock at this tragedy that our son was involved in.
• We perfectly understand the situation, we are parents and realize that nothing can replace a child. Losing a child is the greatest tragedy a person can experience.
• We strive to find a balance and want to offer our support and advocacy for the medical procedures needed to help struggling families.
• We did not try to free our son from the rigors of the law, we are aware of the consequences this tragedy will have on his life, and we did not try to shield him from responsibility for his actions.
• We believe it takes communication, balance and resolution to prioritize emergencies.
• Our souls are empty, we feel endless suffering and we are not looking for an “easy” way out of what we have to do as parents. May God help us to bear this enormous burden.”

The parents of the author of the May 2 tragedy also say that this is the only statement they will make publicly.

The accident happened on Saturday morning, when a 19-year-old boy drove into a group of eight young people, May 2. Roberta Maryna Dragomir (20 years old) and Sebastian Andrei Olariu (21 years old), both students, died on the spot, three other young people were injured.
