Gică Hagi, the ideal option for the Romanian National Bank
Mircea Lucescu is the most successful Romanian coach, and the technician faces a new challenge in his career.
“Dynamo” Kyiv will play in the playoffs of the UEFA Conference League against the Turks from “Besiktas”, and one of the two games will be held at the “Julesti” stadium.
In an interview with Prosport, the 78-year-old coach also discussed the situation in the Romanian national football team.
The national team, currently coached by Edi Iordenescu, is fighting for qualification for the 2024 European Championship, and will play two crucial matches in September – against Israel (September 9) and Kosovo (September 12).
Mircea Lucescu emphasized that, in his opinion, Gike Hagi is the most suitable person for the preparation of the national team.
“Well, I think he doesn’t want Hagi (ed) to be Romania’s coach because normally he would be number one at any time. I am convinced (ed. that Hagi is suitable for the position of coach of Romania), no problem, but I don’t know if he wants it.
He did a very good job. I still talk to him and he keeps telling me, ‘I had someone to learn from’, because ultimately he learned something from Cruyff, but from me he learned to grow, to promote young players. I think he learned it.” – said Mircea Lucescu.
