Metz suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to Rennes, with coach Ladislav Boloni acknowledging the superiority of the opposition in the Ligue 1 first leg match.

Newly promoted Metz failed to cause many problems for Rennes, the team coached by Boloni between 2003 and 2006.

“I’m not really sad, the result is so logical that there’s no need to apologize. We played against a fast team that is better than us in terms of physical contact and experience. The goal is to learn as quickly as possible.

I have seen some hopeful situations, but very few. We played against a strong team in France, at a high level. In order to play normally in the first division, we still need to do some things” – Ladislav Boloniquoted by L’Equipe.

Rennes scored with Kalimuendo (’20), Guiry (’51), Doku (’67) and Salah (’87, ’90+3), while Mazis (’21) scored for Metz.
