It was in 2020, Ford and Volkswagen officially formalize a partnership for the development and marketing of light commercial vehicles. This partnership envisages the creation of several models by 2025. The first fruit of this collaboration was a duet Tourneo Connect/Caddylaunched in 2021. A pickup truck a year later Volkswagen Amarok introduced only a few months after the new generation Ford Ranger. The story will continue in 2022 with the Tourneo Custom (and its electric derivative e-Custom), based on the Volkswagen Multivan. But this German-American partnership is not limited to trucks and pickups! Another axis of development is indeed planned, and this is worrying 100% electric (separate) models. The torque for it is 454 Nm, and at the battery level, on the other hand, Ford has remained very evasive and talks about an electric range of up to 500 kilometers. It needs to be charged from 10-80% in about 25 minutes on a fast charger (DC). It will be assembled at the German plant in Cologne, at the same plant where the already defunct Fiesta was once assembled ! The American group invested more than two billion euros to dedicate the site exclusively to the production of electric models.

According to our colleagues from Kölnische Rundschausite security settings are taking longer than expected and should postpone its commissioning. In other words, the start of Explorer EV production! His order books are still not open, and this delay may delay its first deliveries until at least mid-2024! Ford did not comment on this information.
