June 26 marked the 45th anniversary of the famous historical event known as the “escape” of security general Ion Mihai Pacepa, an episode that had a particular impact on the communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania.

According to the analysis presented by the historian Cristian Troncote in an interview for cancan.ro, this event can be reinterpreted in a surprising way, gradually changing the perception of the communist leader. According to the historian, the escape of Ion Mihai Pachepa was probably prepared by the former Sekuritate. Troncota makes strong arguments in support of this theory. An important aspect is related to Pachepa’s close ties with Julian Vlad, the latter controlling all security structures during that period.
