“I think we can make our mission easier in 2024. It was not by chance that we drew attention to the merging of elections. I think we can put this debate on the back burner, because what is happening in Romanian society shows that we have to focus on reforms, investments, and we cannot afford to get into a dead end at the institutional level, and we are not we can afford to slow down the pace of reforms and have a paralyzed economy effectively blocked by many elections. Consider that there will be four rounds of elections next year, starting in April,” Alina Gorgiu said at a press conference held on Friday in Arad, news.ro reported.

It will be recalled that in 2022 the PNL came up with the idea of combining parliamentary elections with local elections in 2024. The PSD avoided a clear answer and asked the liberals for legal solutions on the matter.

Gorgiou: We will not be part of any political or governmental crisis

Gorgiu also says that Romania needs stability to achieve its goals and reforms in the PNRR, and the PNR has shown responsibility in this regard. The vice president assures that the PNL will not “participate in any political and governmental crisis.”

“The political capital of the PNL means maturity and responsibility, we will never become the source of a political crisis. Several statements about leaving the government I classify as uninspiring. We reject that, and many liberals reject the claims of some about leaving the government and creating a political crisis,” Gorgiou added.

The PNL vice-president’s comments come amid tensions in the coalition over fiscal measures to be taken by the government. Several liberals publicly voiced their opposition and criticized the possibility of tax increases, sparking animosity and public attacks between the PNL and the PSD.
