
Arjesh police opened a criminal case after checking the shelter in Pitesti, where three beneficiaries were found in the basement. DSP inspectors who re-inspected the shelter found that he was preparing food in an improvised kitchen, although company representatives had previously shown a contract with a catering company. Violations in the provision of medical care to beneficiaries were also detected and several fines were imposed.
“Criminal proceedings were opened after an emergency control conducted on Wednesday in the center for the elderly! The decision was made by Argesh police representatives, who confirmed the data received and filed a criminal case for the crime of abuse of office under Article 297 of the Criminal Code, Argesh Prefecture announced on Friday morning.
The source was quoted as saying that SPD inspectors returned to the center on Thursday and found a makeshift kitchen.
“We were surprised to find the center’s workers in the kitchen while they were preparing food: 40 liters of soup, mashed potatoes served with sausages, rice and milk. Although on Wednesday, representatives of the center announced this and showed the contract with the catering company. The kitchen has been suspended,” the prefect of Argesh told Radu Perianu.
He noted that it was also checked how medical care is provided to people in the center.
“22 beneficiaries are registered in the geriatric gerontological primary care unit, 4 of them have not been observed since 2022! These people have observation letters with no medical prescriptions,” said Prefect Argesh.
The prefecture also reported that representatives of the territorial labor inspection found a person who worked at the center without an organizational and legal form.
The applied fine is 20,000 lei. Another sanction was applied because the employee was assigned a task for which he had no training. The amount of the fine is 3,500 lei.
“DSVSA fined the company 1,200 lei for improper handling of food products,” also sent representatives of Argesh prefecture.
A control group established at the level of Argesh prefecture carried out inspections on Wednesday at a private nursing home in Pitesti for the care of the elderly.
The first findings related to the fact that the internees there do not receive enough food, they are not allowed to talk on the phone with relatives, and one of the internees was sleeping on a sofa in the corridor.
