
Several dozen people gathered on Thursday in Victory Square in the capital to mark the fifth anniversary of the diaspora rally on August 10, 2018, brutally suppressed by the gendarmes. The former leadership of the gendarmerie was put on trial on Tuesday for violence against peaceful protesters, and those who took to the streets on Thursday evening are demanding an urgent trial before the statute of limitations expires.
The protest was organized by Declic: “Now that the aggressor gendarmes have been brought to court for the violence of 2018, we demand their trial as an emergency, before the statute of limitations expires.”
Participants came with posters like: “August 10. Teary eyes, but not from gas”, “August 10. We do not forget”, “We do not forget. We do not forgive. August 10, 2018”, “Justice for August 10”, “August 10 – 770 people were gassed and beaten”, reports Agerpres.
They also had banners with messages such as “August 10, 2018 – 2023 – 5 Years of Lies and Delays”, “#Resist” and “August 10. #We will not forget. #We don’t forgive. We want the guilty to pay.”
On Tuesday, the prosecutors of the Military Section of the Prosecutor General’s Office sent the former heads of the gendarmerie to court in the case of the protest action on August 10, 2018, in which 312 victims became civilian parties.

It is about colonel (r) Gheorghe Sebastian Kukosh, former head of the Romanian gendarmerie; colonel Laurenciu Kazan, former deputy general director of the gendarmerie of the capital, now a gendarmerie officer; Colonel Cătălin Sindile, former First Deputy Chief of the Gendarmerie of Romania.
The three are accused of abuse of official position, and Lavrentia Kazan is accused of the crime of intellectual forgery.
In the same case, 13 more officers and sub-chiefs of the Metropolitan Gendarmerie were brought to court: Col. (r) Laurentiu Ciobanu Cristian, former DGJMB Battalion Commander, Col. Rezvan Katalin Popescu, col. Marian Ion Zavoianu, Lt. Col. Adrian Kostel Dumitru, Mr. Luka Moldovianu, Captain Marius Daniel Mihai, Polt. adj. (r) Alin Belechiu, plt. Major Marian Christian Birsan, Plt. adj. Christian Bolat, plt. adj. head of Georgy Buzat, square adj. Florea Carmocanu, plt. adj. chief (r) Bardagan Pavlo Kustryn and plt. major (r) Georgy Kostyantyn Zamfir. They are charged with offensive behavior or complicity in this crime.
